Did a little reading over at Grantland today. Interested to see what this site turns into. Like Simmons’ welcome to the site. Understand the parallel between this site and the Kimmel Show — everything has a beginning, and both are start-ups he was directly involved with. It wouldn’t be Simmons if it wasn’t personal. Haven’t gotten to Chuck Klosterman’s piece yet, but I will later tonight.
After incorrectly setting my alarm on Friday, nearly missing a flight and struggling to get my bearings, I’m finally here and settled in Los Angeles. I got things together just in time for my first day of work, which was earlier today.
Despite my Kobe-referencing title, that first day actually featured no real work for me. Orientation lasted well though the day, and I didn’t sit at my desk until it was around 5:30p.m. and time to head for the parking lot.
After an early orientation, tour and lunch with the editor of the paper, we were also told that all the interns will work on a special project on the walk of fame. While my time for sports seemed like it would be shortened, I’ve already worked an angle into the NBA Finals and will be ready to go tomorrow.
Now I have to go to sleep because the jetlag and time change have changed my sleeping habits drastically. Luckily, tomorrow is a pretty late day.
